<h1>SIGN Function</h1>
<p>The <b>SIGN</b> function is one of the <a href="../UsageInstructions/InsertFunction.htm#mathtrigonometry" onclick="onhyperlinkclick(this)">math and trigonometry functions</a>. It is used to return the sign of a number. If the number is positive, the function returns <b>1</b>. If the number is negative, the function returns <b>-1</b>. If the number is <b>0</b>, the function returns <b>0</b>.</p>
<h3>Syntax</h3>
<p><b><em>SIGN(number)</em></b></p>
<p>The <b>SIGN</b> function has the following argument:</p>
<table style="width: 40%">
<tr>
<th style="background-color: #f4f4f4" width="150ch"><b>Argument</b></th>
<th style="background-color: #f4f4f4"><b>Description</b></th>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><b><em>number</em></b></td>
<td>A numeric value for which you want to get the sign.</td>
</tr>
</table>
<h3>Notes</h3>
<p><a href="../UsageInstructions/InsertFunction.htm#applyfunction" onclick="onhyperlinkclick(this)">How to apply</a> the <b>SIGN</b> function.</p>
<h3>Examples</h3>
<p>The required argument is <b>A1</b>, where <b>A1</b> is <b>12</b>. The number is positive, so the function returns <b>1</b>.</p>
<p><img alt="SIGN Function: POSITIVE" src="../images/signpositive.png" /></p>
<p>If we change the <b>A1</b> value from <b>12</b> to <b>-12</b>, the function returns <b>-1</b>:</p>
<p><img alt="SIGN Function: NEGATIVE" src="../images/signnegative.png" /></p>
